Despite the growing importance of modern technologies in today's society, there are currently only a few offers for creative media work with children and young people in Austria and the Czech Republic. Children and young people mainly use modern technologies passively. The potential for creative and active use is hardly exploited. The project Animation Now aims to fill this gap by creating offers for innovative, modern and creative media work for children and young people through intensive cross-border cooperation. The project partners are Sladovna Písek, the largest children's gallery in the Czech Republic with more than 50,000 visitors a year, and the ZOOM Children's Museum in Vienna with its cartoon studio, which gives children a self-determined and creative approach to new media. Since its opening in 2001, over 5000 films and numerous radio plays have been produced here. The overall aim of the project is to build a sustainable cross-border network. This makes it possible to find innovative solutions for creative media design for the target group children and young people. The subject of animation has a long tradition in the Czech Republic and the ZOOM Children's Museum can pass on its experience in mediating activities in media work, building and maintaining a digital collection and networking within the cultural sector. Together, approaches and practices are defined to support the effective implementation of cross-border cooperation (visits by project teams, strategic partners, exchange visits, job shadowing, joint training programs and accompanying program). Building on the experience of the ZOOM animation studio and a detailed analysis of the know-how gathered in Vienna and Písek, a brand new animation studio in Sladovna is to be built and the existing animation studio in Vienna is to be upgraded in time for its 20th anniversary. A particular focus is on finding contemporary ways to give children and young people new, creative perspectives on their digital skills. Working together on this project enables the exchange of experience, contacting experts from both regions and further cooperation in other projects. The rooms of the two animation studios also offer good opportunities for joint international workshops and other accompanying programs on the subject of animation. The cultural offer in the border region is improved by creating a functional network of international institutions for working with animation technology. The creative potential of all partners involved is used broadly and sustainably. (English)
