OPTION project in a main project will demonstrate opportunities a newly-developed biorefinery mobile pilot plant with a multinational team at sites. The biorefinery operations model and technology that will be tested, refined, and optimised for each location, climatic condition and waste types. The Biorefinery pilot plant will be transported to each NPA partner region, typically for three to six months at each testing site. The proposed transnational and multidisciplinary approach will enhance and act to transfer of best practice between regions. Relevant biowastes and biomasses will be utilised in practical cases in the partner regions, and technology companies, producers of waste materials, and local authorities and other stakeholders will be involved in practical cases. Target group for testing sites are SME’s within food and forest industry, farms, fisheries, and other sites where biowaste and biomass streams from industry, municipality, agriculture or marine environment are generated or collected. Based on the testing and optimization results the new opportunities for refining waste into valuable products will be reported technically and economically and presented in each region for all stakeholders in seminars, workshops and study visits. Special emphasis in each region during the demonstration period will be put in co-operation with local and regional equipment developers and supplier SME’s. Based on the transfer of best practises as well as competence building relating to the biorefinery operations model and technology to partner regions, partners and above mentioned stakeholders will be able to consider the related opportunities from their regions’s point of view. The ultimate aim is that full scale biorefinery plants will be established in NPA regions, which can therefore capitalize the biorefinery operations model and technology’s diverse positive effects.
