Landslides in the Pyrenees cause continuous damage to roads, dams, villages and activities. The objective of the project is to develop and implement two tools to reduce and manage the risk associated with these dangers. It will focus on the dangers with most consequences in the territory: large landslides involving complete slopes overled by towns, infrastructures and activities and susceptible to accelerate and end into a catastrophic failure; the multiple landslides caused by episodes of intense rainfalls that simultaneously affect large areas of the territory (MORLES crisis). Cross-border methodologies are proposed in the project to assess the risk associated with these two types of dangers, as well as tools to quantify, forecast and manage it. The tools will be validated on real events in pilot sites and can be afterwards applied to other areas and / or future climatic scenarios. One result of the project is to reduce the exposure of people in these areas to the risk of landslides (around 35,000 people). A second result includes: the development of a MORLES crisis simulator designed to provide and help Civil Protection authorities to manage crises of this type and the installation in the territory of survey and warning systems for large landslides.
