The project “Legends, a path to more attractive tourist destination” aims at improving the touristic attractiveness of the targeted area (Dolj, Olt, Mehedinti, Montana, Vidin and Vratsa) by identifying, saving, preserving and promoting inestimable pieces of immaterial heritage, local legends, with the goal of improving the sustainable use of natural heritage and resources and cultural heritage. The project tackles a series of problems either identified by programme documents, or from the feed-back received by the Touristic Information Centre which is managed by Forever for Europe Association in Craiova since May 2016: a low level of development of the tourism sector in the targeted area, despite its importance for the general development of the region; the seasonality of the tourism sector; the high volatility and variability of overnights spent; the low level of attractiveness of the targeted region for youth generation when considering a touristic activity. All these problems are obstacles for the tourism sector to truly contribute to the general development of the target area. The project proposes three specific objectives (SO) to promote more sustainable use of Dolj, Olt, Mehedinti, Vidin, Vratsa and Montana districts natural heritage and resources and cultural heritage, thus also improving the tourism in the eligible area: SO1: Collecting the local legends related to natural heritage and resources and cultural heritage from the targeted CBC area, with the potential of becoming sustainable touristic attractions and illustrate them through graphical representation. SO2: Improving the level of attractiveness of cross-border tourism through the development of 2 common tourism products, namely Legendary Map (paper version and e-map together with the explanatory catalogue) and Legendary Camp (common event dedicated to pupils and teachers). SO3: Increasing the number of tourists in the targeted area by promoting the sustainable use of common heritage in terms of local legends through distribution of the touristic materials developed, elaborating and broadcasting of the video production and organizing the Legendary Camp for 240 pupils and 48 teachers. The project directly contributes to the achievement of the Output indicator I9 - Number of integrated tourism products/services created = 2, namely Legendary Map and Legendary Camp. The Legendary Map will consist of a printed map with the target area where the places related to legends will be marked by suggestive drawings. The map will be a very useful product for the people travelling in the area and will stimulate them to visit the respective places. The map will be completed by an interactive version of it and by an explanatory catalogue, detailing the storied behind the legendary places. The Legendary Camp will be a multi-day type of event, created especially for pupils, accompanied by teachers, where they will discover the territory of the target area through the legends. The participants will be involved in activities such as listening and telling stories, watching movies, fun activities and visiting legendary places. By using the legends as a tourist resource, we are going to tackle all the problems previously identified: - creating 2 new and attractive tourism products, the number of tourists will rise in the region, contributing to the general development of the area. The products being mainly targeted to the children and youth, the development will be a long term, sustainable one. - the tourism products created is year-round and the sites related to the legends will be visited any time during the year, combating the current seasonality of the tourism in the area. - the project will promote the leisure tourism and a special type of event (Legendary camp) which will tackle the current focus on business and transit tourism, increasing the intensity of tourism activities. - the low level of touristic attractiveness of the targeted area will be tackled through the increase of the awareness about the tourist potential through more attractive way - through the legends for the sites in the target area. The pupils will be the main project target group because they represent the future for the development of both regions. Having a cross border approach in tackling the problems will have a twofold impact: encouraging the intra-region tourism (people from targeted districts, which have low levels of income, to travel for short distances and discover unknown places with a story behind), but also exploiting the great potential to develop joint tourism attractions for foreign tourists (foreign tourists will be more interested in discovering places and legends from the larger territory on each side of Danube). The approach taken by the present project proposal is innovative by the subject (it creates stories which will raise the level of interest for the children and youth to travel in the region), by the implementation method (the legends will be graphically represen (English)
