The objective of the project was to encourage girls and young women in Vorarlberg, Liechtenstein and Grisons to take an interest in political processes, and to increase the number of women in management and decision-making bodies. According to a survey, women are still under-represented in decision-making and management posts in the state of Vorarlberg, the canton of Grisons and in the principality of Liechtenstein. This is apparent from extensive data collection in the fields of politics, administration, business, social, media, education and science, sport and culture in the three countries. The fact is that the equal participation of women in decision-making and management positions could not be identified in any of the areas surveyed. The data for the media presence of women and men in management posts, which was surveyed in selected media in the three countries, show a clear tendency in favour of men but with small regional differences. The objective of the project was to motivate and encourage girls and young women to take an interest in decision-making bodies. The project raised awareness of the situation of women in decision-making and management positions, and thematically targeted women’s and equality topics in the media. Varying transnational measures have contributed to women being proportionally better represented in management and decision-making bodies in the future. The project “Subject: women decide” implemented the following content: • A transnational girls’ parliament including a preparatory series of workshops for girls • Politics: decide – short course for politically interested women • Tutorial on the topic of “gender in media reporting” with a transnational web conference • Social media training: insight was given into the digital world together with young experts • Survey on women in management posts and media analysis • The project closed with a specialist symposium in the Bregenz state building.
