    The merger of Ghent Port Company with Zeeland Seaports to form North Sea Port in 2018 created an enormous opportunity for socio-economic development in the border region. In 2020, 525 companies were active in this port region, which stretches from Ghent to Vlissingen/Borsele, and together accounted for 100,000 jobs. But today various companies are struggling to fill their (technical) vacancies. Many of the open vacancies appear on the shortage job list on both sides of the border, such as a production process technician, IT business analyst, industrial automation technician or machine operator. In addition to the shortage occupations, the Dutch side is experiencing a shortage on the labor market due to, among other things, the aging population and the dejuvenation of the region. In addition, many job seekers are less inclined to look for a job in the port area because there is a perception that companies there are difficult to reach. North Sea Port Talent focuses on the challenges of filling vacancies at these companies in the border region. The project aims to improve the match between supply and demand in the labor market by making vacancies widely known and experimenting with alternative forms of training for job seekers, young potentials and lateral entrants. In doing so, it wants to tackle the mobility challenges by focusing on multimodal mobility, inspired by the cross-regional service model of the Aviato training and employment center at Brussels Airport.
