The main aim of the project is to increase the attractiveness of the Polish-Russian cross-border area for residents and tourists through creating a common historical and cultural area. Within the project, the museum in Elbląg has planned to conduct geophysical and archaeological research to locate the cemetery of the inhabitants of the Viking settlement of Truso. Archaeological research in the former settlement called Sędyty was also planned by the Scientific Association “Pruthenia” of Olsztyn. The city of Olsztyn, on the other hand, has developed a reconstruction and three-dimensional visualization of this place. Moreover, a design documentation was developed for the construction of the archaeological park in Sędyty. On the Russian side of the border, the Kant University from Kaliningrad conducted archaeological research, while the Viking settlement “Kaup” was enriched with two reconstructed Viking boats and a place to store them. Both settlements - Truso and Sędyty and other similar sites in the region (in total 42 in Poland and 21 in the Kaliningrad Region) have been marked as trails in the mobile application, which provides information on the historical places and local tourist services. There were also elements of augmented reality, as well as 3D visualisation - including the village of Sędyty, the defensive walls of the Old Town in Olsztyn, the settlement of Truso and on the Russian side - defensive structures near the village of Romanovo. The application is available in three languages: Polish, English and Russian. The project also foresees the organisation of cultural events both in Poland and Russia. Historical festivals were planned in Sędyty and in the Kaup settlement. Visitors could participate in workshops of medieval crafts, art, music, dance and take part in games for children and adults. An online catalog was also created, international workshops for students and craftsmen were conducted, culminating in prototypes of art objects inspired by archaeological motifs prepared by professional designers.
