The aim of the four country project ReArc is to restore previously modified arctic rivers. The project will map watercourses for preparation, carry out restoration measures, remove migration barriers, restore spawning beds of e.g. fish, and renovate flooding- or erosion protection constructions. This will be done in order to increase the fulfillment of the environmental objectives of the EU Water Framework Directive and the main goals of the Russian Water Codex and Federal Programme. In a broader perspective this will result in a greater potential for river ecosystems to adapt to climate change and contribute to the viability of arctic nature, environment and economy. (English)
