Industrial companies today are under extreme pressure to compete on the international market. The Swedish government’s industry strategy – “Smart industri" – identifies key areas which are relevant to growth and development of Swedish industry. The project “Smart industrikompetens” will contribute with new knowledge and guidelines to strengthen industrial companies in connection to the government’s strategy. Skåne’s regional development strategy lifts many regional challenges, but also points out possibilities. Skåne has a young and growing diverse population and competence supply is a key aspect for the industrial companies. The discovering and identifying of unused skills and expertise among groups that have not yet entered employment in the region, as well as taking care of and developing skills and expertise that already exist within the company, are becoming deciding factors for continuing growth, development and competitiveness. Participation is key. With an innovation-driven economy that changes continuously it is of utmost importance to have all employees involved in the growth and development of the company. The project “Smart industrikompetens” will increase competence among employees of participating companies as well as improve the employees’ abilities to adapt and change when necessary. The project will also provide participating companies with knowledge and advice on approaching issues like diversity and non-discrimination which will then assist in increased abilities to work with innovation and internationalisation. The project will address an already identified need of strategic skills development and competence supply and includes mapping, analysis and efforts to improve competence on both strategic and individual level. All employees of the participating companies will participate in strategy workshops for ownership, commitment and understanding of the company's development strategy, and get individual skills that strengthen the individual and that is in line with the company's strategies. The company management make growth analyses and participate in networking meetings with other companies. Activities in the project will integrate workplace culture, corporate strategy, diversity and non-discrimination issues, and the competence supply process according to the Swedish standard SS 624 070, which will become a suppport in the work process. The standard and the process will be a remaining tool for the participating companies. The project evaluation will focus on the efforts of increased skills and adaptability of the employees, and increased knowledge and attitude changes in diversity and non-discrimination issues within the companies, to increase capacity for innovation and internationalisation. The project results will be spread to the member companies in the Industrial Clusters IUC Syd, and to other business networks and industrial organisations. The project cooperation partners will bring their knowledge and experience from the project in their respective organisations. 30 companies have expressed interest to participate in the project. The participating companies have in total 689 employees, of whom 88 (13%) women and 601 (87%) are men. (Swedish)
