THE AIM OF THE EUROPEAN UNION’S LANGUAGE POLICY IS TO PROMOTE THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES IN THE EUROPEAN UNION AND TO CREATE A FAVOURABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL THE LANGUAGES OF THE MEMBER STATES. KNOWLEDGE OF THE LANGUAGES IS REGARDED AS ONE OF THE BASIC SKILLS WHICH EVERY EUROPEAN CITIZEN MUST ACQUIRE IN ORDER TO IMPROVE HIS EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT. IN THE CONTEXT OF VOCATIONAL TRAINING POLICY, THE AIM OF THE EUROPEAN UNION IS THEREFORE TO ACHIEVE THE MASTERY OF TWO OTHER LANGUAGES IN ADDITION TO THEIR MOTHER TONGUE BY EVERY CITIZEN. THE STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK “EDUCATION AND TRAINING 2020” DEFINES LANGUAGE LEARNING AS A PRIORITY.
