Ο Αρχαίος Δίολκος στον Ισθμό της Κορίνθου, ένα σημαντικότατο μνημείο της ελληνικής αρχαιότητας, αποτελεί την πρώτη συστηματική προσπάθεια μεταφοράς εμπορευμάτων και πλοίων από το Σαρωνικό προς τον Κορινθιακό Κόλπο και αντιστρόφως. Για το σκοπό αυτό τον 6ο αιώνα π.Χ. και πιθανότατα επί Περιάνδρου κατασκευάστηκε από την παραλία του Σχοινούντα μέχρι το δυτικό πέρας του σημερινού καναλιού, μεταξύ της σύγχρονης πόλης της Κορίνθου και του Λουτρακίου, λιθόστρωτος δρόμος με αυλακιές, που χρησίμευαν για την κύλιση των τροχοφόρων επί των οποίων μεταφέρονταν τα πλοία. Στο πλαίσιο του παρόντος έργου, τα ορατά τμήματα του Διόλκου προς την πλευρά της Πελοποννήσου θα συντηρηθούν, θα στερεωθούν και θα αναδειχθούν ώστε να είναι επισκέψιμα από το ευρύ κοινό. Παράλληλα, θα δημιουργηθεί θαλάσσιο φράγμα κατά μήκος του Διόλκου, ώστε να ελαχιστοποιηθεί η φθορά του μνημείου από τη διαβρωτική δράση της θάλασσας. (Greek)

The Ancient Diolkos in the Isthmus of Corinth, a major monument of Greek antiquity, is the first systematic effort to transport cargo and ships from the Saronic Gulf to the Corinthian Gulf and vice versa. For this purpose in the 6th century B.C. and probably during Periandros was built from the beach of Schinounda to the western end of today’s canal, between the modern city of Corinth and Loutraki, a cobbled road with grooves, which served to scroll the wheeled vehicles on which the ships were carried. In the context of this project, the visible parts of Diolko to the Peloponnese side will be maintained, fixed and highlighted in order to be visited by the general public. At the same time, a sea barrier will be created along Diolkos, in order to minimise the deterioration of the monument by the corrosive action of the sea. (English)

L’ancien Diolkos sur l’Isthme de Corinthe, un monument important de l’Antiquité grecque, est la première tentative systématique de transport de marchandises et de navires du golfe Saronique au golfe de Corinthe et vice versa. À cette fin, au VIe siècle av. J.-C. et probablement pendant Periandros, il a été construit de la plage de Schininda jusqu’à l’extrémité ouest du canal actuel, entre la ville moderne de Corinthe et Loutraki, une route pavée avec des rainures, qui ont été utilisés pour le roulement des roues sur lesquelles les navires ont été transportés. Dans le cadre de ce projet, les parties visibles de Diolkos du côté du Péloponnèse seront conservées, fixées et exposées pour être visitées par le grand public. Dans le même temps, un barrage marin sera créé le long de Diolkos, afin de minimiser la détérioration du monument par l’action corrosive de la mer. (French)

Das antike Diolkos auf dem Isthmus von Korinth, ein wichtiges Denkmal der griechischen Antike, ist der erste systematische Versuch, Waren und Schiffe vom Saronischen Golf zum Korinthischen Golf zu transportieren und umgekehrt. Zu diesem Zweck wurde es im 6. Jahrhundert v. Chr. und wahrscheinlich während Periandros vom Strand von Schininda bis zum westlichen Ende des aktuellen Kanals gebaut, zwischen der modernen Stadt Corinth und Loutraki, einer gepflasterten Straße mit Grooven, die zum Rollen der Radfahrer, auf denen die Schiffe transportiert wurden, verwendet wurden. Im Rahmen dieses Projekts werden die sichtbaren Teile von Diolkos auf der Peloponnes Seite erhalten, fixiert und von der breiten Öffentlichkeit besucht werden. Gleichzeitig wird entlang von Diolkos ein Meeresdamm geschaffen werden, um die Verschlechterung des Denkmals durch die korrosive Wirkung des Meeres zu minimieren. (German)
