Se propone la creación del DroneLab, una infraestructura dedicada a estudiar la integración de los drones con la tecnología móvil 4G y 5G. La propuesta incluye, por un lado, un espacio de vuelo exterior acotada de 80x45x15 metros que facilite un ritmo de vuelos experimentales libre de las ataduras impuestas por la regulación aérea. Por otro lado, todo un conjunto de elementos tecnológicos que permitan investigar como los drones pueden explotar las comunicaciones móviles para ensanchar sus capacidades operativas._x000D_ La infraestructura solicitada permitirá investigar aspectos cómo las bandas milimétricas de alta capacidad 5G, el beam-forming para minimizar el impacto del ruido electromagnético colindante, el impacto y posibles estrategias para despliegue extensivo de dispositivos NB-IoT basados en tecnología LPWAN (Low-Power Wide Area Network) embarcados en los drones, o en el diseño de las redes definidas por software (SDN) y en la virtualización de servicios de red (NFV), para poder crear los servicios específicos requeridos para la operativa drone, especialmente en entornos urbanos._x000D_ La propuesta coordina un total de cuatro grupos de investigación, acumulando conocimiento operativo en el ámbito drone, en diversos aspectos de la gestión de las bandas de frecuencia 4G/5G, en la explotación de la información en el ámbito Internet of Things (IoT) y en el despliegue de la infraestructura terrestre requerida para ofrecer o generar servicios para o desde los drones. The creation of the DroneLab is proposed, an infrastructure dedicated to studying the integration of drones with mobile technology 4G and 5G. The proposal includes, on the one hand, a flight area of 80x45x15 meters that facilitates the development of experimental flights free of the ties imposed by the air regulation. On the other hand, a whole set of technological elements that allow investigating how drones can exploit mobile communications to broaden their operational capabilities._x000D_ The requested infrastructure will allow to investigate aspects such as 5G high-capacity millimetric bands, beam-forming to minimize the impact of adjacent electromagnetic noise, impact and possible strategies for extensive deployment of NB-IoT devices based on LPWAN technology (Low-Power Wide Area Network) embarked on drones, or in the design of software defined networks (SDN) and in the virtualization of network services (NFV), in order to create the specific services required for the drone operation, especially in urban environments._x000D_ The proposal coordinates a total of four research groups, accumulating operational knowledge in the drone field, in various aspects of the management of the 4G / 5G frequency bands, in the exploitation of information in the Internet of Things (IoT) field, and in the deployment of the terrestrial infrastructure required to offer or generate services for or from drones.
