A zona central do PNSSM foi percorrida por incêndio em 2003 e apresenta hoje significativas manchas de regeneração natural de pinheiro bravo, quercíneas e castanheiros no seio dos matos, numa estrutura contínua, densa e de elevada carga de combustível. No projeto é proposto realizar a condução de quercíneas autóctones para promover o seu desenvolvimento e adensar áreas para formação de futuros habitats. (Portuguese)

The central area of the PNSSM was covered by fire in 2003 and today has significant natural regeneration spots of wild pine, quercíneas and chestnut trees within the bushes, in a continuous, dense and high fuel load structure. In the project it is proposed to carry out the conduction of indigenous wants to promote their development and to thicken areas for the formation of future habitats. (English)
