The project will equip the University of Huelva with equipment for the metabolomic approach of the research lines associated with 20 national and European research projects managed by the groups that participate or support the proposal (8 in total), focusing on the environment, food, agri-food production and health. The consortium involves two research centers from the University of Huelva (CYSMA and CIDERTA), the Campus of International Excellence of the Sea (CEIMAR/UHU), and the Adesva Technological Centre (Junta de Andalucía). The fundamental strategic lines for the use and application of this platform have been established, which combines the ability of a cell classification and cytometric unit (UCCS) to characterise cultures of microalgae, microorganisms and cell lines, with the potential of the UHPLC-QqQ-TOF-MS instrumental system to carry out metabolomic studies in extracts obtained from these cultures, characterisation of metabolic profiles and identification of metabolites in serum samples, tissue extracts from environmental bioindicators, samples of food, humans and agro-food products. All this will allow the study of the environment, the production of bioenergy and biopolymers, lipids from microalgae, early diagnosis of pathologies (lung cancer, Alzheimer’s), occupational and public health, nutrition during pregnancy and other applications of strong social impact.
