Objectives: This study has a primary objective and a secondary objective. — Main objective: Describe the celiac population in Spain and the psychosocial factors that condition adherence to a gluten-free diet and its quality of life within Schwarzer’s Health Action Process Approach. — Secondary objective: Design and validate a questionnaire to evaluate the adaptation of celiac patients to Schwarzer’s Health Action Process Approach in their adherence to the gluten-free diet. This scale, once validated, will be used in the study of the main objective. Methodology: The methodology consists of two sequential studies: Study 1: (Secondary objective): A scale validation study designed to evaluate the adaptation of the celiac patient to Schwarzer’s Health Action Process Approach as a predictive framework for adherence, and consequent quality of life, in a representative sample (n=250) of subjects aged 18 years or older, a scale to be used in study 2. Study 2: (Main objective): Using the materials generated in the previous study, a cross-sectional descriptive study of the psychosocial characteristics of the celiac population in Spain will be carried out by means of a survey through health centres and patient associations throughout Spain for a representative sample (n=1,200) of people with celiac disease aged 18 years or older to determine the psychosocial factors relevant to adherence to the gluten-free diet.
