    ESTE PROYECTO PRETENDE AVANZAR EN EL CONOCIMIENTO FUNDAMENTAL DE SISTEMAS DE FLUJO COMPLEJO QUE PUEDEN PRESENTAR MULTIPLES FASES (FLUIDAS O SOLIDAS) Y QUE PUEDEN TENER ASOCIADOS PROCESOS DE TRANSPORTE DE CALOR/MATERIA CON O SIN REACCION QUIMICA. ESTE TIPO DE FLUJOS ESTA PRESENTE EN MULTITUD DE SITUACIONES Y APLICACIONES DE INTERES CIENTIFICO, TECNOLOGICO Y/O BIOMEDICO QUE ABARCAN DESDE LA ESCALA MICRO, COMO LA DEPOSICION DE PLAQUETAS Y FIBRINOGENO EN LAS ETAPAS INICIALES DE LA TROMBOSIS, HASTA LA ESCALA DE LOS GRANDES EQUIPOS INDUSTRIALES, COMO LOS REACTORES MULTIFASICOS. EL AMBITO DE TRABAJO ES PUES REALMENTE VASTO Y EXTENSO CON IMPORTANTES ZONAS DE CONOCIMIENTO POCO ESTUDIADAS EN RELACION CON LA COMPLEJIDAD DE LOS FENOMENOS DE MEZCLA Y TRANSPORTE ASOCIADOS ASI COMO DE LA INTERACCION ENTRE LAS DISTINTAS FASES PRESENTES EN EL FLUJO. ESTE PROYECTO SE CENTRA EN EL ANALISIS MEDIANTE MODELIZACION, SIMULACION NUMERICA Y EXPERIMENTOS DE UN ABANICO SELECCIONADO DE PROBLEMAS DE FLUJO QUE TIENEN EN COMUN ALGUNA DE LAS CARACTERISTICAS ARRIBA MENCIONADAS Y EN EL QUE LOS GRUPOS SOLICITANTES TIENEN YA CIERTA EXPERIENCIA EN CUANTO A NIVEL Y TECNICAS DE ANALISIS EN PROBLEMAS SIMILARES O EN LOS QUE SU ESTUDIO YA HA SIDO INICIADO EN EL MARCO DE ANTERIORES PROYECTOS DE CARACTER FUNDAMENTAL, REALIZADOS A TRAVES DE CONVOCATORIAS COMPETITIVAS, O DE CARACTER APLICADO, A TRAVES DE CONTRATOS CON EMPRESAS. ES PRECISAMENTE LA PARTICIPACION EN ESTE ULTIMO TIPO DE PROYECTOS APLICADOS LA QUE PONE DE MANIFIESTO LA FALTA DE CONOCIMIENTO FUNDAMENTAL EXISTENTE ACERCA DE LOS FENOMENOS Y LAS INTERACCIONES ENTRE LAS DISTINTAS FASES PRESENTES EN EL FLUJO. ESTO DIFICULTA, O MUCHAS VECES IMPIDE, UNA ACERTADA MODELIZACION DE ESTOS FENOMENOS Y INTERACCIONES Y, POR LO TANTO, LA CAPACIDAD DE RESOLUCION DE PROBLEMAS REALES, COMO LOS ENCONTRADOS EN EQUIPOS INDUSTRIALES ASOCIADOS AL FLUJO. EN PARTICULAR EN ESTE PROYECTO SE PLANTEAN CINCO PAQUETES DE TRABAJO QUE COMPARTEN Y PERSIGUEN EL OBJETIVO FINAL DE AVANZAR EN EL CONOCIMIENTO FUNDAMENTAL DE FLUJOS DE INTERES BIOMEDICO (COMO LOS FLUJOS DE MATERIA Y PARTICULAS, CON REACCIONES BIOQUIMICAS, ASOCIADOS A LOS PROCESOS DE DEPOSICION DE PLAQUETAS Y FIBRINOGENO EN EXPERIMENTOS DE PERFUSION, EL DE PARTICULAS MAGNETICAS EN VASOS SANGUINEOS O EL DE GLOBULOS ROJOS EN CONDICIONES DE MICROCIRCULACION) E INDUSTRIAL (COMO EL ASOCIADO AL TRANSPORTE DE FIBRAS FLEXIBLES, EL ASOCIADO A LA MEZCLA TURBULENTA O LOS FLUJOS MULTIFASICOS EN REACTORES Y CONDUCTOS).     THIS PROJECT AIMS TO ADVANCE THE FUNDAMENTAL KNOWLEDGE OF COMPLEX FLOW SYSTEMS THAT CAN PRESENT MULTIPLE PHASES (FLUID OR SOLID) AND THAT MAY HAVE ASSOCIATED HEAT/MATTER TRANSPORT PROCESSES WITH OR WITHOUT CHEMICAL REACTION. THIS TYPE OF FLOW IS PRESENT IN MANY SITUATIONS AND APPLICATIONS OF SCIENTIFIC, TECHNOLOGICAL AND/OR BIOMEDICAL INTEREST RANGING FROM THE MICROSCALE, SUCH AS THE DEPOSITION OF PLATELETS AND FIBRINOGENS IN THE EARLY STAGES OF THROMBOSIS, TO THE SCALE OF LARGE INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT, SUCH AS MULTIPHASIC REACTORS. THE SCOPE OF WORK IS THEREFORE REALLY VAST AND EXTENSIVE WITH IMPORTANT AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE LITTLE STUDIED IN RELATION TO THE COMPLEXITY OF THE ASSOCIATED MIXING AND TRANSPORT PHENOMENA AS WELL AS THE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT PHASES PRESENT IN THE FLOW. THIS PROJECT FOCUSES ON THE ANALYSIS BY MODELLING, NUMERICAL SIMULATION AND EXPERIMENTS OF A SELECTED RANGE OF FLOW PROBLEMS THAT HAVE IN COMMON SOME OF THE CHARACTERISTICS MENTIONED ABOVE AND IN WHICH THE APPLICANT GROUPS ALREADY HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE IN TERMS OF LEVEL AND TECHNIQUES OF ANALYSIS IN SIMILAR PROBLEMS OR IN WHICH THEIR STUDY HAS ALREADY BEEN INITIATED IN THE FRAMEWORK OF PREVIOUS PROJECTS OF FUNDAMENTAL CHARACTER, CARRIED OUT THROUGH COMPETITIVE CALLS, OR OF APPLIED CHARACTER, THROUGH CONTRACTS WITH COMPANIES. IT IS PRECISELY THE PARTICIPATION IN THIS LAST TYPE OF IMPLEMENTED PROJECTS THAT HIGHLIGHTS THE LACK OF FUNDAMENTAL KNOWLEDGE ABOUT PHENOMENES AND THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT PHASES PRESENT IN THE FLOW. THIS HINDERS, OR OFTEN PREVENTS, A SUCCESSFUL MODELLING OF THESE PHENOMENA AND INTERACTIONS AND, THEREFORE, THE ABILITY TO SOLVE REAL PROBLEMS, SUCH AS THOSE FOUND IN INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT ASSOCIATED WITH THE FLOW. IN PARTICULAR, THIS PROJECT PROPOSES FIVE WORK PACKAGES THAT SHARE AND PURSUE THE ULTIMATE OBJECTIVE OF ADVANCING THE FUNDAMENTAL KNOWLEDGE OF BIOMEDICAL INTEREST STREAMS (SUCH AS MATTER AND PARTICLE FLOWS, WITH BIOCHEMICAL REACTIONS, ASSOCIATED WITH PLATELET AND FIBRINOGEN DEPOSITION PROCESSES IN INFUSION EXPERIMENTS, MAGNETIC PARTICLES IN BLOOD VESSELS OR RED GLOBULES UNDER MICROCIRCULATION CONDITIONS) AND INDUSTRIAL (SUCH AS THE ASSOCIATED TRANSPORT OF FLEXIBLE FIBERS, TURBULENT MIXING OR MULTIPHASE FLOWS IN REACTORS AND DUCTS).
