The aim of the project is to investigate the biological cycle of two new species of insects introduced into our country that are causing significant damage to citrus and persimmon crops, and to develop, for their control, new biological phytosanitary formulations, based on synergistic mixtures of active ingredients of different essential oils specifically prepared for this purpose._x000D_ _x000D_ These are two species of pseudococcids, known as Delottococcus aberiae and Pseudococcidus longispinus, of recent appearance in our country, from sub-Saharan Africa and South America, respectively, whose extensive capacity, beyond the specific geographical areas in which they have caused pests, constitutes an important risk, but also to other types of crops._x000D_ _x000D_ Unfortunately, due to globalisation, this type of “invasions” will occur more and more frequently, thus implying in terms of the supply and health needs of a planet increasingly dependent on extensive agriculture._x000D_ Agroscience thus becomes a fundamental instrument, and in particular biological control techniques, in line with the new Community regulations and FAO recommendations._x000D_ _x000D_ The project is proposed as a logical combination of work in two scenarios: in real field, through experimental plots, and in laboratory for the development and testing of properties of formulations.
