    THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP A SOL-GEL COATING WITH HIGH MECHANICAL RESISTANCE AGAINST SCRATCHING AND WEAR, BUT USED WOOD SUBSTRATES IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE MECHANICAL STRENGTH OF THE FINISHING PROCESS FOR WOOD THAT CURRENTLY EXIST IN THE SEVERE MARKET FOR APPLICATIONS, SO THAT THE WOOD CAN COMPETE AT THE SAME LEVEL WITH OTHER LESS SUSTAINABLE SYNTHETIC SUBSTRATES. GIVEN THE RESULTS WITH THIS HYBRID TECHNOLOGY ON OTHER SUBSTRATES AND IN OTHER SECTORS WITH HIGH TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS IN THE PRESENT PROJECT, THE USE OF SOL-GEL TECHNOLOGY, WITH LOW OR NO EMISSION COV¿S PROPOSED AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE PROCESSES EXISTING TO ACHIEVE HIGHER MECHANICAL STRENGTH FOR END USES IN INTERIOR FINISHING WHERE THE MARKET REQUIREMENTS AND REGULATORY ARE HIGH, FOR EXAMPLE, FLOORS AND WALL COVERINGS FOR PUBLIC SPACES, OR HORIZONTAL SURFACES OR WORKING IN KITCHEN FURNITURE , BATHROOM AND OFFICE.
