La convocatoria de Islas Inteligentes nace con el objeto de potenciar el empleo de las TIC en el desarrollo de territorios insulares, en particular en aquellos para los que el factor insular impacta negativamente en las oportunidades de desarrollo económico, en la calidad de vida de sus ciudadanos, y en el nivel de los servicios públicos que estos reciben. Esta convocatoria se traduce en la concesión, en régimen de concurrencia competitiva y conforme a los principios de publicidad, transparencia, igualdad y no discriminación, de ayudas en especie a Administraciones Locales que gestionen servicios públicos en la totalidad del territorio de cualquiera de las islas pertenecientes a las Comunidades Autónomas de Canarias e Islas Baleares. La iniciativa podrá actuar sobre diferentes ámbitos de las infraestructuras y los servicios de la isla, siempre que todos ellos se integren en la estrategia de isla inteligente y atiendan a la mejora de los servicios públicos del territorio a través del empleo de las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC). The call for Smart Islands was born with the aim of enhancing the use of ICT in the development of island territories, particularly in those for which the insular factor negatively impacts the opportunities for economic development, the quality of life of its citizens, and the level of public services they receive. This call is the concession in competitive competition and in accordance with the principles of publicity, transparency, equality and non-discrimination, of in-kind aid to local administrations that manage public services in the entirety of the territory of any of the islands belonging to the Autonomous Communities of the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands. The initiative will be able to act on different areas of the infrastructure and services of the island, provided that all of them are integrated in the strategy of smart islands and attend to the improvement of the public services of the territory through the use of the technologies of the information and the communication (ICT).
