UNO DE LOS MAYORES RETOS DE LA SINTESIS ORGANICA MODERNA ES EL DESARROLLO DE REACCCIONES DE FORMACION DE ENLACES C-C SOSTENIBLES Y DE ALTA EFICIENCIA ATOMICA, ASI COMO EL DESCUBRIMIENTO DE NUEVAS ALTERNATIVAS A LAS METODOLOGIAS SINTETICAS ACTUALES.     CARBON-CARBON BOND FORMATION, WHICH IS THE BASIS FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF ESSENTIAL MOLECULES, HAS BEEN TYPICALLY DEVELOPED THROUGH METHODS THAT INVOLVE THE USE OF PRE-MADE ORGANOMETALLIC REAGENTS. THESE PROCEDURES ARE INHERENTLY LIMITED TO THE AVAILABILITY AND REACTIVITY PROFILES OF THE REAGENT ITSELF AND ENTAIL THE FORMATION OF A STOICHIOMETRIC AMOUNT OF INORGANIC SALT AS A REACTION BY-PRODUCT. ONE OF THE MAJOR CHALLENGES IN MODERN SYNTHETIC ORGANIC CHEMISTRY IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE AND ATOM-EFFICIENT C-C BOND FORMING REACTIONS AS WELL AS THE DISCOVERY OF NOVEL ALTERNATIVES TO THE CURRENT AVAILABLE METHODS. IN THIS CONTEXT, CATALYTIC TRANSFORMATIONS USING SIMPLE AND ABUNDANT ORGANIC MATERIALS AS LATENT ORGANOMETALLIC EQUIVALENTS ARE HIGHLY WARRANTED AS THEY CAN PROVIDE MORE EFFICIENT AND OPERATIONALLY SIMPLER PROCESSES THAN WHEN STOICHIOMETRIC QUANTITIES OF SENSITIVE INTERMEDIATES ARE REQUIRED._x000D_ THE OVERALL AIM OF THIS PROJECT IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW CONCEPT IN CATALYSIS WHICH ENTAILS GENERATION OF TRANSIENT ORGANOMETALLIC REAGENTS FROM SIMPLE AND ABUNDANT FEEDSTOCKS USING CATALYTIC BROOK REARRANGEMENTS (INTRAMOLECULAR ANIONIC MIGRATIONS OF A SILYL GROUP) AND THEIR IN-SITU USE IN STEREOSELECTIVE C-C BOND FORMING REACTIONS._x000D_ THE CONCEPT WILL BE DEMONSTRATED BY DEVELOPING UNCONVENTIONAL SYNTHETIC TECHNOLOGIES BASED ON 1) THE MERGER OF CATALYTIC BROOK REARRANGEMENT AND ASYMMETRIC ALLYLIC SUBSTITUTION THROUGH A COOPERATIVE INTERACTION BETWEEN TWO TRANSITION METAL COMPLEXES WHICH WILL ALLOW 1,4-DIENES TO BE SYNTHESIZED IN A STEREOSELECTIVE MANNER, AND 2) COPPER-CATALYZED CASCADE REACTIONS INVOLVING DOUBLE BOND SILYLCUPRATION-ELECTROPHILIC TRAPPING-BROOK REARRANGEMENT PROCESSES WHICH WILL ALLOW FOR SELECTIVE ALKENE DIFUNCTIONALIZATION PROCESSES IN WHICH OLEFINS OPERATE AS LATENT BIS-CARBANION EQUIVALENTS. THESE NEW METHODOLOGIES WILL ALLOW FOR ACHIEVING C-C COUPLINGS THAT CANNOT BE PERFORMED USING CURRENT METHODS._x000D_ THE PROPOSED RESEARCH WILL SHIFT THE FRONTIERS OF ORGANOMETALLIC CATALYSIS AND ORGANIC SYNTHESIS, AND WILL SET THE BASIS FOR A NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR THE EFFICIENT, CLEAN AND SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION OF HIGHLY VALUABLE COMPOUNDS FROM ABUNDANT AND READILY AVAILABLE FEEDSTOCKS, SUCH AS HYDROCARBONS.
