A K2D propõe-se tirar partido da já existente infraestrutura de cabos submarinos de comunicações e transporte de energia para produzir uma rede de deteção contínua e em tempo real dos sinais vitais da terra e em particular dos oceanos. K2D será realizado por um consórcio constituído por companhias e instituições cientificas portuguesas, e parceiros estratégicos, um internacional (MIT) e dois regionais, AIR Centre e UAçores.
