To study the effect of antibiotic prophylaxis adecuacy on surgical wound infection incidence at Hospital Universitario Fundación Alcorcón. Methods Retrospective cohort observational analitic study. A sample estimate of 9066 patientes was calculated, 533 patients per surgical procedure. The most frequent surgical procedures of all surgical specialities will be included in consecutive inclusive way. Percentage of administration and degree of compliance with protocol will be studied. Both overall and the different aspects of prophylaxis (antibiotic of choice, route, dose, time of administration and duration) received by patients to those stipulated in the p (Spanish)

Objectives To study the effect of the adequacy of antibiotic prophylaxis on the incidence of Surgical Localisation Infection (ILQ) in the Alcorcón Foundation University Hospital. Methodology Observational analytical study of retrospective cohorts. An estimate of sample size has been made of 9066 patients, 533 per surgical procedure. The most frequent surgical procedures of each surgical specialty shall be included by consecutive inclusion. The incidence of surgical infection shall be estimated by calculating the cumulative incidence and incidence density of ILQ. The adequacy of antibiotic prophylaxis for each of the individual criteria defined in our protocol (administered antibiotic, dose, antibiotic pattern, route of administration and time of administration) and overall adequacy will be evaluated. The effect of the adequacy of antibiotic prophylaxis on the incidence of ILQ shall be analysed by calculating the relative risk (RR).The effects of confusion and interaction of the other variables on the effect of the adequacy of prophylaxis on the infection rate with an adjusted logistic regression model will be evaluated. The adjusted RR of the effect of prophylaxis adequacy in the incidence Objectives To study the effect of antibiotic prophylaxis adequacy on surgical wound infection incidence at Hospital Universitario Fundación Alcorcón will be calculated using this model.
