EL SINDROME REPRODUCTIVO Y RESPIRATORIO PORCINO (PRRS) CAUSA ENORMES PERDIDAS A LA INDUSTRIA PORCINA A NIVEL MUNDIAL. LA TASA DE MORTALIDAD DE LA ENFERMEDAD MUESTRA UNA GRAN VARIACION DEPENDIENDO DE LA CEPA DEL VIRUS Y EL ESTADO DE SALUD PARTICULAR DE LA PIARA AFECTADA. LAS CEPAS VIRALES MAS LETALES - COMO LOS QUE CIRCULAN EN EL SUDESTE ASIATICO - PUEDEN CAUSAR HASTA UN 25% -50% DE MORTALIDAD. EN LA ACTUALIDAD, LAS VACUNAS PROPORCIONAN PROTECCION PARCIAL CONTRA LA ENFERMEDAD. LA PROPUESTA PIB-A-PRRS BUSCA IDENTIFICAR LAS PRINCIPALES DIFERENCIAS EN LA RESPUESTA DE INMUNIDAD PROTECTORA CONTRA LA INFECCION POR EL VIRUS DEL PRRS (PRRSV) DENTRO DE UNA PIARA CON UN ENFOQUE MULTIDISCIPLINARIO QUE INCLUYE GENETICA DE POBLACIONES, INMUNOLOGIA Y BIOINFORMATICA. SUEROS Y MUESTRAS DE TEJIDOS OBTENIDAS DE PROYECTOS ANTERIORES SERAN REUTILIZADOS Y NO SE LLEVARAN A CABO EXPERIMENTOS CON ANIMALES. SE ANALIZARAN DOS GRUPOS DE CERDOS VACUNADOS CON RESPUESTAS INMUNES ANTAGONICAS (EFICAZ Y NO EFICAZ), CONTRA LA ENFERMEDAD. LA DIVERSIDAD DE LA POBLACION DE PRRSV Y LA RESPUESTA INMUNE DEL HUESPED SE CARACTERIZARAN UTILIZANDO SECUENCIACION MASIVA Y SECUENCIACION SANGER. LA PROPUESTA TENDRA UN IMPACTO SIGNIFICATIVO EN LA SOCIEDAD, MEJORANDO LA EFICIENCIA DE LAS VACUNACION, Y EN CONSECUENCIA, LA COMPETITIVIDAD DE LA INDUSTRIA PORCINA EN ESPAÑA Y EUROPA. (Spanish)

PORCINE REPRODUCTIVE AND RESPIRATORY SYNDROME (PRRS) CAUSES HUGE LOSSES TO THE SWINE INDUSTRY WORLDWIDE. THE MORTALITY RATE OF THE DISEASE SHOWS A LARGE VARIATION DEPENDING ON THE STRAIN OF THE VIRUS AND THE PARTICULAR HEALTH STATUS OF THE AFFECTED HERD. MORE LETHAL VIRAL STRAINS — SUCH AS THOSE CIRCULATING IN SOUTHEAST ASIA — CAN CAUSE AS MUCH AS 25-50 % MORTALITY. CURRENTLY, VACCINES PROVIDE PARTIAL PROTECTION AGAINST THE DISEASE. THE GDP-A-PRRS PROPOSAL SEEKS TO IDENTIFY THE MAIN DIFFERENCES IN THE RESPONSE OF PROTECTIVE IMMUNITY AGAINST PRRS VIRUS INFECTION (PRRSV) WITHIN A HERD WITH A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH THAT INCLUDES POPULATION GENETICS, IMMUNOLOGY AND BIOINFORMATICS. SERUMS AND TISSUE SAMPLES OBTAINED FROM PREVIOUS PROJECTS WILL BE REUSED AND NO ANIMAL EXPERIMENTS CARRIED OUT. TWO GROUPS OF PIGS VACCINATED WITH ANTAGONISTIC IMMUNE RESPONSES (EFFECTIVE AND NOT EFFECTIVE) AGAINST THE DISEASE WILL BE ANALYSED. THE DIVERSITY OF THE PRRSV POPULATION AND THE IMMUNE RESPONSE OF THE HOST WILL BE CHARACTERISED USING MASS SEQUENCING AND SANGER SEQUENCING. THE PROPOSAL WILL HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON SOCIETY, IMPROVING THE EFFICIENCY OF VACCINATIONS, AND CONSEQUENTLY THE COMPETITIVENESS OF THE PIG INDUSTRY IN SPAIN AND EUROPE. (English)
