Quantum entanglement manifests itself in the strongest possible correlations between two physical systems. Entanglement between photons forms the basis of ultimately secure cryptographic key distribution protocols – quantum key distribution (QKD). Furthermore the field of quantum information processing (QIP), which holds promise to revolutionize computation and metrology, relies crucially on entanglement. Out of the photon’s degrees of freedom the spectral-temporal is the most promising, yet the least explored in the context of QIP. Its assets are high dimensionality and compatibility with integrated optics, however manipulating spectral-temporal entanglement in a low-loss, low-noise manner is challenging. Here we will use latest advances in fast electro-optic phase modulation techniques to perform significant modifications of the quantum state of spectrally entangled photon pairs. In particular we will investigate their use for highly efficient spectrally-encoded QKD. (Polish)
