    GO Trade will boost the FCE local economies by increasing the number of visitors to local markets by 327 650 and by helping 450 traders to grow sustainable businesses in markets. A high number of town centres/high streets have suffered declining footfall due to markets losing their identity and people favouring online stores for day-to-day shopping. This has favoured national companies above local economies. Attracting visitors to the local markets would boost the local businesses and help maintain and restore an essential part of the common cultural heritage of the channel area. Both England and France view markets as integral parts of their heritage. However, over time, markets have lost some of their appeal: the traditional, diverse and handmade/ locally produced aspects have been lost in favour of manufactured products and at a price that undercuts local products. On both sides of the channel goods are often imported for economic reasons (e.g.: Fruits from Spain sold in France, at a much cheaper price than French products, imported manufactured goods in the UK). Using markets as business incubators and improving the quality and diversity of products on offer, GO Trade will attract local residents to visit their local markets. This project will use traditional markets as a catalyst for job creation, skills development and growth through the visitor economy by creating a cross-border quality brand: GO TRADE. The main project objectives are: To use markets as an entry point for tourism. Markets are an integral part of the history of towns and cities in the FCE area and as such we will create new tourism packages, animations and modernise services to attract tourists and increase the lenth of their stays in our partner market towns. To revitalise markets by creating a cross-border quality brand: GO Trade. This brand will be based on a strong Cross-border marketing strategy and quality criteria that stall holders will adhere to and co-create. The brand will be an itegral part of the tourism product above. To maximise on the economic potential of the markets by using them as business incubators, training potential market stall holders to offer quality services in line with the GO Trade brand quality criteria. The project will create a business plan which will help the brand to be sustainable and accelerate dissemination as it will be made available to new markets joining the brand network. The partnership has worked over the past two years to put together a timeline of activities and have performed a survey which confirms the demand from stall holders and the interest from the geneal public. The cross-border expertise will enable the project to reach its targets and deliver real change to markets in the programme area. Information added on 2020-05-18, regarding the mitigation of the effects of COVID-19 (the coronavirus pandemic that started in 2019) (English language only): GO-TRADE is adapting several of its activities to address the pandemic: the click and collect service is adapted to a click and drop service with a delivery option to support local shops whose business have been impacted by the pandemic. Several webinars will be created to support businesses on how to sell on line products and how to deliver. To support the tourism industry, the partnership will create virtual tour to promote the partners’ areas. (English)
