Bike tourism has experienced exceptional growth in Europe over the past few years. The Ardennes has great potential for economic development linked to bicycle tourism and already enjoys an image of a “green” region with its bucolic landscapes. In addition, it is at the gates of the largest European bicycle tourism markets, Germany (leading world market) and the Netherlands, while the practice is developing in England, France and Belgium. The Ardenne Cyclo project is taking advantage of this boom in European cycling customers to offer two bicycle tourism products in the cross-border territory thanks to the connection of isolated sections and the reduction of dangerous passages. This new product is based around the major European cross-border routes surrounding the Ardennes, namely EuroVelo 5 (EV5) and La Meuse by bicycle. Ardenne Cyclo aims to create 2 new cross-border tourism products, namely: - A 170km loop linking La Meuse by bicycle and the Voie Verte Trans-Ardennes from Givet to Monthermé. Along the itinerary, the cyclist crosses magnificent landscapes typical of the Ardennes and passes through many tourist sites such as caves, the most beautiful villages of Wallonia, etc. - A 110km route linking the EV5 to La Meuse by bike. From plateaus to valleys, the route passes through a mosaic of varied landscapes, as well as emblematic heritage sites. In order to strengthen its marketing, the Ardenne Cyclo project works closely with the EuroCyclo project, as well as with the Ardenne Attractivity project portfolio. (English)
