ArcticSkills aims to cover the needs of vocational skills in the businesses in the cross border areas between Norway, Finland, Sweden as well as Russia. The project also aims at increased quality and graduation in education, extended participation from colleges all over the Barents region, stronger cooperation with businesses and international mindedness among students and enterprises. The partnership led by Kirkenes Upper secondary school, consists of all colleges in Murmansk region coordinated by Murmansk Technological College of Services, all upper secondary schools in the county of Finnmark, all vocational colleges in the region of Lappland and Tornedalsskolan in Haparanda. The partners share a strong belief that a competition in vocational skills, between students and apprentices, can contribute to increase the status of vocational education and skills in our regions and thus solve the problem of lack of skilled workforce. By using the competition as a platform for dialogue between businesses, schools and the political life, we intend to develop a joint effort to reach this goal. (English)
