    TIGER will drive the growth of Tidal Stream Energy (TSE) in FR & the UK & accelerate the deployment of TSE in the FCE region, with significant economic benefits for coastal communities. It addresses the need to reenergise the stalled TSE sector in FR & the UK, which is slow to develop because sites do not come on stream at a required pace, partnerships between SMEs are not developed to realise the opportunities, & the public case for tidal energy has not been made to win policy support for the sector, so discouraging private investment. The project will address these challenges by building cross-border partnerships to develop new technologies, test and demonstrate them at a number of locations in and around the Channel region, & use the learning from this development to make a stronger, cost-effective case for TSE as part of the FR/UK energy mix. The project brings together sector specialist organisations, SMEs & technology developers, with academic experts, to build cross-border teams to collectively accelerate the development of the sector, faster and more effectively than would be possible without Interreg support. Project partner turbine developers, supported by academia & research organisations, will work together, creating one new UK/FR supply chain network that will deliver new designs for improved performing/ lower cost turbines, associated infrastructure and ancillary equipment. TIGER will transform the current TSE baseline in the Channel region. It will switch back on the dormant Ramsey Sound site (Pembrokeshire, UK) and install up to 1MW of new turbine capacity; it will create a new operational community energy scheme at Yarmouth (Isle of Wight, UK) with up to 1.2MW of new turbine capacity; repurpose the Paimpol-Bréhat site (Brittany, FR) and install 100KW of capacity; complete consenting at two new sites at Le Raz Blanchard (Normandy, FR), & a new site at Morbihan (Brittany, FR) installing 500kW, with the opportunity to install a further 6MW of new installed capacity during the project. In doing so, the project could install a total 8.8MW of additional energy capacity, leading to a reduction in GHG emissions of 11,000 tonnes p.a., creating investment in coastal communities, an economic increase in GVA of €13m p.a. & contribute to a TSE cost reduction towards €150/MWh. The partnership brings together key stakeholders in TSE who have the necessary experience of developing tidal sites, building, testing, installing and operating tidal turbines who can best work together to influence the TSE sector, regulators and UK/FR Governments. This will be the first time that such a complete range of influential stakeholders has been brought together in a single TSE project to deliver, through collaboration, a range of results and outputs that will be crucial to set the foundations for the industry’s future growth with a predictable positive impact on regional economic growth.
