SIN EMBARGO, TODAVIA TENEMOS UN CONOCIMIENTO BASTANTE INCOMPLETO DE COMO LA BIOSINTESIS DE CAROTENOIDES SE INTEGRA Y COORDINA CON VIAS METABOLICAS Y DE DESARROLLO RELACIONADAS. EL PRIMER OBJETIVO DE ESTE PROYECTO ES EXPLORAR LOS MECANISMOS MOLECULARES QUE PODRIAN CONTRIBUIR A ESTA COORDINACION ENTRE BIOSINTESIS DE CAROTENOIDES Y PROCESOS RELACIONADOS CON LA FOTOSINTESIS EN LOS CLOROPLASTOS. EN PARTICULAR, PRETENDEMOS GENERAR CONOCIMIENTO SOBRE EL CONTROL METABOLICO DEL APORTE DE PRECURSORES ISOPRENOIDES EN ARABIDOPSIS THALIANA Y CARACTERIZAR EN PROFUNDIDAD EL FENOTIPO METABOLICO Y MOLECULAR DE FRUTOS TRANSGENICOS DE TOMATE (SOLANUM LYCOPERSICUM) CON NIVELES ALTERADOS DE FACTORES QUE REGULAN TANTO EL DESARROLLO DEL CLOROPLASTO COMO LA CAROTENOGENESIS. COMO SEGUNDO OBJETIVO, QUEREMOS ENSAYAR UNA NUEVA ESTRATEGIA BIOTECNOLOGICA BASADA EN EL USO DE VECTORES VIRALES EN HOJAS DE TABACO (NICOTIANA TABACUM) PARA LA PRODUCCION TRANSITORIA DE CAROTENOIDES FUERA DE LOS PLASTOS. THE FIRST OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO EXPLORE THE MOLECULAR MECHANISMS THAT COULD CONTRIBUTE TO THIS COORDINATION BETWEEN CAROTENOID BIOSYNTHESIS AND PROCESSES RELATED TO PHOTOSYNTHESIS IN CHLOROPLASTS. IN PARTICULAR, WE AIM TO GENERATE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE METABOLIC CONTROL OF THE CONTRIBUTION OF ISOPRENOID PRECURSORS IN ARABIDOPSIS THALIANA AND TO CHARACTERISE IN DEPTH THE METABOLIC AND MOLECULAR PHENOTYPE OF TRANSGENIC TOMATO FRUITS (SOLANUM LYCOPERSICUM) WITH ALTERED LEVELS OF FACTORS THAT REGULATE BOTH THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHLOROPLAST AND CAROTENOGENESIS. AS A SECOND OBJECTIVE, WE WANT TO TEST A NEW BIOTECHNOLOGICAL STRATEGY BASED ON THE USE OF VIRAL VECTORS IN TOBACCO LEAVES (NICOTIANA TABACUM) FOR THE TRANSIENT PRODUCTION OF CAROTENOIDS OUTSIDE THE PLATES. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF HOW PLANTS REGULATE THE PRODUCTION OF CAROTENOIDS (AN ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL PROCESS FOR PLANT LIFE), THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO GENERATE USEFUL INFORMATION FOR NEW BIOTECHNOLOGICAL APPROACHES AIMED AT INCREASING THE LEVELS OF THESE IMPORTANT METABOLITES IN CROPS (E.G. AS PLANT PHYTONUTRIENTS) OR PLANT BIOPHACTORIES (E.G. AS NATURAL PIGMENTS FOR INDUSTRY). (English)
