DESDE LA PERSPECTIVA DE LOS CONDUCTORES, LAS SOLUCIONES ITS DEBEN OFRECER UN NIVEL ADECUADO DE ASISTENCIA, DE CARA A MEJORAR LA EFICIENCIA, LA SEGURIDAD Y LA FIABILIDAD._x000D_ A PESAR DE QUE LAS SOLUCIONES ITS SE ESTAN ORIENTANDO DE FORMA GRADUAL HACIA ESCENARIOS DE TRANSPORTE PLENAMENTE INTELIGENTES, ECOLOGICOS Y SOSTENIBLES, SIGUEN EXISTIENDO RETOS IMPORTANTES QUE DEBEN SER SOLUCIONADOS, INCLUYENDO AQUELLOS RELACIONADOS CON LA CONDUCCION AUTONOMA Y LA GESTION EFICIENTE DEL TRAFICO EN ZONAS URBANAS E INTERURBANAS. POR ELLO, DEBEMOS INCREMENTAR LOS ESFUERZOS DE INVESTIGACION EN ESTAS AREAS, Y ASI PODER ACELERAR Y MEJORAR LOS PROCESOS QUE PERMITAN GARANTIZAR EL EXITO DE LAS SOLUCIONES ITS EN UN FUTURO CERCANO._x000D_ EN CONCRETO, ESTE PROYECTO PROPONE LA ADOPCION DE LOS SISTEMAS INTELIGENTES Y LOS SERVICIOS EN RED PARA AVANZAR CON RESPECTO AL ESTADO DEL ARTE ACTUAL EN ESTAS AREAS, TENIENDO COMO PRINCIPALES OBJETIVOS: (I) AUMENTAR EL POTENCIAL DE LOS ACTUALES SISTEMAS DE GESTION DE TRAFICO EN AREAS METROPOLITANAS, DESARROLLANDO UN SISTEMA CIBERNETICO A GRAN ESCALA CAPAZ DE TENER UN CONTROL COMPLETO DE LAS RUTAS UTILIZADAS POR TODOS LOS VEHICULOS QUE CIRCULAN EN UNA CIUDAD, ADOPTANDO PLENAMENTE EL PARADIGMA DE CONTROL DE TRAFICO CENTRALIZADO QUE PERMITA BALANCEADO DE TRAFICO. EL SISTEMA PROPUESTO BUSCA MEJORAR DRASTICAMENTE LA CIRCULACION, PERMITIENDO ADEMAS TENER UNA REALIMENTACION EN TIEMPO REAL SOBRE LA OCUPACION DE LAS DIFERENTES VIAS URBANAS, ASI COMO PREDECIR LA OCUPACION FUTURA DE DICHAS VIAS, PERMITIENDO REALIZAR ACCIONES CORRECTIVAS DE GESTION DE TRAFICO; (II) DESARROLLO, VALIDACION Y PRUEBAS DE UNA UNIDAD DE A BORDO (OBU) AVANZADA, PLENAMENTE COMPATIBLE CON LOS ESTANDARES IEEE 802.11P Y 4G/5G, QUE DE SOPORTE A COMUNICACIONES AVANZADAS ENTRE VEHICULOS, ASI COMO ENTRE VEHICULOS Y UNIDADES A PIE DE CARRETERA (RSUS) Y ENTRE CICLISTAS Y VEHICULOS. ADEMAS, SE INCLUIRA (III) EL DESARROLLO DE RSUS MOVILES BASADAS EN VEHICULOS AEREOS NO TRIPULADOS PARA OFRECER UNA DISTRIBUCION TRANSPARENTE DE AVISOS Y CONTENIDOS, PERMITIENDO NOTIFICAR RAPIDAMENTE A LOS CONDUCTORES SOBRE SITUACIONES DE PELIGRO EN AQUELLAS AREAS SIN COBERTURA PERMANENTE DE RED. ESTOS OBJETIVOS SE COMPLEMENTAN CON (IV) UNA ARQUITECTURA QUE COMBINA SENSORIZACION VEHICULAR, TECNICAS DE INTELIGENCIA ARTIFICIAL Y MINERIA DE DATOS, PARA DETERMINAR LAS TECNICAS MAS ADECUADAS QUE PERMITAN LOGRAR UNA GESTION DE LA MOVILIDAD INTELIGENTE, ECOLOGICA, Y SOSTENIBLE.     INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES (ITS) ARE A FUNDAMENTAL COMPONENT OF THE ENVISIONED SMART CITIES BY OFFERING SMART MOBILITY SOLUTIONS. FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF DRIVERS, ITS SOLUTIONS SHOULD PROVIDE ADVANCED ASSISTANCE IN ORDER TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCY, SAFETY, AND RELIABILITY. _x000D_ DESPITE ITS SOLUTIONS ARE SLOWLY MOVING TOWARDS FULLY SMART, GREEN AND SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION SCENARIOS, THERE ARE CURRENTLY MANY CHALLENGES THAT REMAIN TO BE SOLVED, INCLUDING THOSE RELATED TO AUTONOMOUS DRIVING AND THE EFFICIENT MANAGEMENT OF TRAFFIC IN BOTH URBAN AREAS AND INTERURBAN ROADS. THUS, RESEARCH EFFORTS ARE REQUIRED IN ORDER TO ACCELERATE AND IMPROVE THE PROCESSES LEADING TO THE SUCCESS OF ITS SOLUTIONS IN A NEAR FUTURE._x000D_ IN PARTICULAR, THIS PROJECT PROPOSES THE ADOPTION OF INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS AND NETWORK SERVICES TO ADVANCE THE CURRENT STATE-OF-THE-ART IN THIS AREA, HAVING AS MAIN GOALS: (I) AUGMENTING THE POTENTIAL OF CURRENT TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT IN METROPOLITAN AREAS BY OFFERING A LARGE-SCALE CYBER-PHYSICAL SYSTEM ABLE TO HAVE FULL CONTROL OF THE ROUTES TAKEN BY ALL VEHICLES TRAVELLING THROUGH A CITY, FULLY RESEMBLING THE CENTRALIZED TRAFFIC CONTROL PARADIGM. THE PROPOSED SYSTEM AIMS TO DRAMATICALLY IMPROVE TRAFFIC FLOW OPTIMIZATION, WHILE ALSO ALLOWING TO HAVE REAL-TIME FEEDBACK ABOUT THE OCCUPATION STATUS OF DIFFERENT STREETS, AND TO PREDICT STREET OCCUPATION IN THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE, THEREBY ALLOWING TO TAKE CORRECTIVE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT ACTIONS; (II) DEVELOPMENT, VALIDATION, AND TESTING OF AN ADVANCED ON BOARD UNIT (OBU) FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH THE IEEE 802.11P AND THE 4G/5G STANDARDS SUPPORTING ADVANCED COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN VEHICLES, AND ALSO BETWEEN VEHICLES AND ROADSIDE UNITS (RSUS), AND BETWEEN VEHICLES AND CYCLISTS. THE PROJECT ALSO INCLUDES (III) THE DEVELOPMENT OF MOBILE ROAD SIDE UNITS BASED ON UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES TO ENABLE SEAMLESS CONTENT DELIVERY AND WARNING NOTIFICATIONS, ALLOWING TO QUICKLY NOTIFY ABOUT DANGEROUS EVENTS TO VEHICLES EVEN IN AREAS WITHOUT PERMANENT NETWORK COVERAGE. THESE GOALS ARE COMPLEMENTED BY (IV) AN ARCHITECTURE COMBINING VEHICULAR-BASED SENSING, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TECHNIQUES, AND DATA MINING TO DETERMINE THE MOST EFFICIENT APPROACHES FOR SMART, GREEN, AND SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY MANAGEMENT.
