Trať zajišťuje spojení hromadnou dopravou do správního a hospodářského centra Ústeckého kraje. Stavba je situována na tělese stávající železniční trati Louny - Lovosice. Stavba je umístěna zejména na stávajících drážních pozemcích. Stavbou nedochází ke změně umístěny dráhy v území. Úpravy zvýší bezpečnost na trati, zvýší maximální možnou rychlost vlaků a sníží provozní náklady. Zvýší se rovněž průchodnost tratě. Výhledový stav dopravy předpokládá zavedení dalších dvou párů spěšných vlaků. (Czech)
