The aim of the project is to develop an innovative technology for the production of propylene bioglycol with pharmaceutical purity from the waste product of the biofuel industry, which is glycerin. The project involves product downstreaming, where the waste product is processed into valuable products, in this case, for pharmaceutical purity propylene glycol, which can be used in cosmetic products, personal protection as well as for food purposes. The project assumes the development of a new method based on the heterogeneous catalyst developed in ICSO. Currently, propylene glycol is produced from petrochemical products, where first propylene is converted to propylene oxide and then hydrated to propylene glycol. The technology developed in ICSO is a one-stage method, where the reactor has direct, two-stage hydrogenolysis of glycerin to propylene glycol with high efficiency and selectivity, followed by the hydrogenation product being separated from the catalyst and purified by distillation methods. The new technology is based on the assumptions of technology patented by ICSO for the production of propylene glycol with technical purity. The result of the project is the presentation and execution of demonstration batches of the product on a pilot scale using an improved, modified quarter-technical hydrogenation system. The results obtained will confirm the results obtained on the laboratory scale and allow to minimise investment risk by potential clients. The developed technology will become the property of ICSO, where the rights to technology will be sold under license. (English) | |||||||||||||||

(Polish)
