The aim of the project is to increase the epidemiological security of citizens of the cross-border area, improve the accessibility of health services and raise awareness of the threat of infectious diseases. In addition to performing screening tests for HCV and HIV/AIDS, the aim of the project is to establish a close collaboration and develop common solutions to cross-border epidemiological problems – to reduce the risk in the event of Unforeseen mass Outbreaks of infectious diseases. Purchase of equipment for the Infectious Diseases Units of the hospitals participating in the project is planned – to increase the medical standard – as well as organising joint trainings for hospital staff and for primary care and Polyclinic doctors, aimed at promotion of awareness of infectious disease cases among primary care physicians, and two international conferences aimed at exchange of experiences. Publication of a script for specialists is also planned. A comprehensive communication framework was prepared for the project – to enable dissemination of project-related information, the tests, and infectious diseases-related problems. In the project, screening tests of 6000 persons for HCV and 200 liver tests in HCV-positive persons are planned. The mass tests will be a perfect exercise evaluating the project’s impact and the cooperative abilities. The project stimulates the improvement of contacts and cross-border cooperation – increasing safety in critical situations. (English) | |||||||||||||||

An increased incidence of infectious diseases, i.e. HCV and HIV/AIDS, can be observed in the Programme area (the Terespol/Brest border crossing). Due to the possibility of uncontrolled increase in incidence along the cross-border transport corridor (large streams of travellers), hospitals in the area must become epidemiological filters – adequately equipped and with trained staff – to meet unforeseen epidemiological challenges. Purchase of equipment for the Infectious Diseases Units of the hospitals participating in the project is planned – to increase the medical standard – as well as organizing joint trainings for hospital staff and for primary care and polyclinic doctors, aimed at promotion of awareness of infectious disease cases among primary care physicians, and two international conferences aimed at exchange of experiences.
