The gender gap between boys and girls playing sport begins around the age of 8 and continues to grow as girls move into the secondary school. Bearing this in mind, the main objective of the project is to support co-operation in the field of sport to develop joint approaches that would tackle the issue of low level of physical activity among girls at primary schools (aged 7-15) in the border region, and thus ensure their positive relationship with sports as a key factor for leading a healthy lifestyle. The main project activities include: Research on barriers contributing to low level of physical activity among young girls; Development of teaching material with translation and printing; Organization of workshops; Procurement of sports equipment and goods; Organization of demo PE classes and sport trainings for girls; Data collection on sport opportunities for young girls in the region and subsequent development of smartphone/tablet app; Organization of the Mentoring programme; Participation in the European Commission’s initiative “European Week of Sport”; Organization of two regional junior camps for girls. The project lasts 24 months and covers the area of Vojvodina, in Serbia, and Csongrád County, in Hungary. The diverse target group is comprised of relevant actors for the issue at hand and will include primary school girls, physical education (PE) teachers, coaches from local sport clubs and sport experts. Moreover, families and school communities are identified as an indirect target group beneficial for the project. The project aims for the following results: Increased skills and competences of PE teachers, coaches and sport experts for coaching primary school girls; Improved material conditions of sport facilities in project area for implementation of PE classes and sport activities; Increased awareness on availability of sports programmes for young girls in project area; Two regional junior camps for girls in the cross-border region organized. All outcomes demonstrate a strong cross-border effect. (English)
