The project in question involves the preservation and development of cultural and natural heritage of the Carpathian Foothills. Its objective is to create and promote a new tourism product in the Polish-Slovak-Ukrainian borderland, based on infrastructure which is being built along the railway trail of Line No. 107 to the border with Ukraine, Slovakia (Łupków) and then along the Carpathian trail to Giraltovce. The main investment tasks of the project are: 1) on the site of an old paraffin refinery in Ustrzyki Dolne, a space for Bieszczadzkie Centrum Dziedzictwa Kulturowego [the Bieszczady Mountains Cultural Heritage Centre] will be prepared; 2) in Zagórz, a Memorial Square of the 1918 Defenders of the Zagórz Junction will be created (a small open-air museum in the form of a garden square with rail technology objects such as a locomotive TKt48124 (1955), an arm semaphore and a water crane. Next to these facilities, a commemorative plaque with QR codes will be installed. It will commemorate the heroic deeds of the 1918 Defenders of the Zagórz Junction; 3) adaptation of rooms in the building of Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art for the Museum of the First World War in Medzilaborce: adaptation works together with related infrastructure (renovation of the pavement along the Dobriański Street – from the railway station to the Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art – 2080.00 m2; renovation of the car park in Mierow Street – 476.5 m2; construction of a car park next to the cemetery – 533.5 m2 and installing lighting, security system, monitoring system as well as equipping the the Museum with exhibits and necessary objects); 4) in Giraltovce, a Slovak-Polish House will be built with rooms for displaying the elements of heritage by both Slovak and Polish partners. The investment activities will be accompanied by “soft” projects: 1) a cultural event in each of four localities and in Chyrów; 2) a scientific conference on the heritage of the Carpathian Mountains. The history of the railway line and its importance for the project will also be discussed. (English)
