The NPA Literary Tourism Project will address the untapped potential of the strong and complementary place-based literary-landscape assets of the Region, which have the potential to attract both motivated literary tourists and culturally curious visitors. These assets (see C.1.2 bullet point 3 below) deliver an inherent competitive advantage for the Region but have yet to be analysed, developed and jointly-marketed for the benefit of the NPA region. Our project will develop joint approaches, including: The development of a shared conception of NPA Literary Tourism (LT); Research to understand and appreciate market size and profile; Transfer of knowledge from cities to rural periphery; Development of shared narrative which promotes destination-based LT in the region; Innovation-based strategies to tackle market development and the ability of SMEs to cluster and capitalise on LT opportunity and potential; Joint marketing approaches for destination-based marketing; SME/micro enterprise engagement to deliver tangible benefits to both the LT and wider cultural tourism sectors in the NPA region. The project outputs will include a Good Practice Guide to NPA Literary Tourism, SME Engagement Programme, place-based marketing initiatives, cultural content and programming and a digital innovation initiative that motivates the customer to connect with the LT product. An electronic NPA LT transferability manual available to all EU Regions will form an important output of the Capitalization Strategy for the main project. The project will result in a new Literary Tourism network for the NPA and a body of good practice from LT both in NPA UNESCO Cities of Literature, the Region as a whole and internationally, resulting in a newly developed cultural tourism product for peripheral rural regions of the NPA.
