The creation of two Open House Museums in the area of Sitia Lassithi (Crete) and in the area of Marathasa Limassol (Cyprus) aims at their development with the active participation of local communities based on a holistic sustainable approach. The Act will be a model of open-air museums. The common challenge concerns the formation of two House Museums (one per area) based on a common organizational framework and the strengthening of their ties with the place as well as the development of a model network of Open House Museums, with the aim of its cross-border adoption. In both Greece and Cyprus, such a standard model does not exist, although a variety of independent House Museums have been established. The proposed cross-border networking is ensured by the prior cooperation of the 2 areas in similar projects, which show a need for continuity (eg Troodos Geopark - Sitia Geopark). In Sitia, a reference museum of olives and development will be developed, and a model participatory oil mill will be set up. In Troodos, in the area of Marathasa, Limassol, it will be transformed into an open house museum with reference to its stock of natural (paths) and cultural heritage (ancient & Byzantine monuments, folk art, traditional professions), its connection with local economic activities and the creation of local economic activities. cultural education. Sitia and Marathasa Limassol, areas rich in cultural heritage, geophysical environment-landscapes, but also with different forms of abandonment, aim to enhance their attractiveness in terms of sustainability. The interdisciplinary approach to improving their attractiveness emphasizes the promotion of their territorial resources, their values, the activation and integration of the local community in the implementation of the intervention, aiming at its sustainability (Economic development, social balance, environmental always in bearing capacity). The recovery of the areas will be based on a dynamic way of managing the landscape and highlighting their culture. The main outputs of the Act are the restoration of the resource elements of the two areas and their harmonious aesthetic and environmental integration in the natural landscape. Through actions, sustainable poles of tourist attractiveness will be created, contributing to the formation of the idiosyncratic tourist product of the areas, utilizing the historically and architecturally remarkable building stock, the natural resources. Through specialized spatial planning, a functional framework for the organization of the Eco-Museum will be formed, harmoniously integrated in the wider natural and cultural environment. The 2 House Museums will be places of experiential education, through the activities of cultural education (operation of the Cultural Education Center). Finally, the creation of a cultural environment of visitor interface will ensure the cultural continuity and will strengthen the economy of the two regions. (English)
