Aquaponics is a combined production systems that allows for a reduced environmental impact in the agricultural and food industry. This techniques consists in growing plants without soil and with a reduced water consumption compared to traditional agricultural practices, recycling organic waste from fish farms. Aquaponics has the following benefits: (1) it does not involve the use of fertilizers; (2) it limits the consumption of soil, as plants do not have to fight for nutrients; (3) it does not require pesticides. Hence, aquaponics is considered to be a “green” technology. (English)
