As a continuation of the MultiAPPRO project, MultiAPPRO Plus will promote freight transport logistics, strive to make intermodal transportation more competitive and put maritime freight transport on equal footing with other transport modes, as well as continue the creation of frameworks that incentivise investments for the modernization of ports in the Adriatic-Ionian region and continue reviewing the progress made in the development of sustainable mobility as previously proposed by the European Commission. The project’s main goal is to promote the project outcomes and results at the National, European and Macro-regional level, as well as promoting the relevance and use of the application developed within the project’s pilot activity. The project will continue developing and promoting intermodal transport in the Adriatic-Ionian region amidst new challenges. During the past two years, a global health crisis has arisen, in the form of the COVID-19 pandemic, causing issues in the transport and logistic sector with huge consequences. Previously, within the MultiAPPRO project, the Intermodal Transport Network, an expert body at the international level with the purpose of supporting the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable intermodal transport in the region, has been established. Now, with the COVID-19 crisis as the main obstacle, partners will once again collaborate with the ITN to find solutions and overcome the obstacles that have been caused by COVID- 19. The membership of ITN will be expanded, keeping previously included members and including new ones, along with the signing of a new MoU. The experts in the field will be assembled to discuss how to overcome the consequences of the crisis and a pilot activity focusing on the development of an Android and/or iOS mobile application will be performed. This application will allow status checks on documents, entering data and certification of documents. The usage of the application (mostly by port operators and stakeholders) will enable greater flexibility in operations, avoid unnecessary physical contact in offices, and in addition, will represent another step towards complete elimination of paper documentation in the offices of the testing partner. The project will promote the outcomes previously achieved within the MultiAPPRO project, which include the ITN network, SSS and MoS promotion action plan, Promotion network and Transport performance strategy. These outputs will be presented to stakeholders at European, National and Macro-regional level in the field of transport and logistics with the aim of engaging them in high-level debate over the role of the Adriatic-Ionian transport and logistics connections, and how the COVID-19 pandemic changed the relationship between key actors and the economic factors in the field of transport and logistics.
