Song Writers of the Arctic Network - SWAN will solve the basic problem of professional isolation and poor global market reach. Through the establishment of a Support Service, the project will provide place-based solutions by combining regional/transnational network clusters and match-making workshops that bring together songwriters/producers and representatives from the global music industry. The project will promote real cases/assignments, inspirational leadership and a commitment to develop partnerships that ensure that results are measured in terms of numbers of signed contracts, music sold on new international markets and promotional success. Targeted groups include 16-19 year olds who are songwriters of the future but the main focus is on songwriters of all ages, ethnicity and gender who are capable of delivering the needs of the market and industry. By bringing in representatives from the music industry the project is not simply relying on creating platforms for dissemination of ideas or information - it is building a business network based on personal relationships providing a joint platform for development. Without personal contact the music industry will simply not acknowledge the rich pool of talent that currently exists. This approach can be transferred to other fields within the creative industry which suffers from centralisation despite the attraction and inspiration of the peripheral NPA region. (English)
