Nowadays, insulation in confined spaces must be more and more effective in order to avoid energy losses. This can result in a lack of ventilation that can lead to an increase in the concentration of pollutants in the indoor air, such as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) which are harmful to human health. Different approaches have been proposed to reduce this problem: ventilation, filtration, pollution-removing plants, etc. However, the development of efficient methods enabling the on-site degradation of pollutants seems much more advantageous in the long term. The TEXACOV project is part of this process and consists of developing materials that allow the degradation, ideally into H2O and CO2, by the photo-catalytic effect of VOCs on the indoor air that uses visible light and without any additional external energy input. To achieve this objective, the synthesis of doped TiO2 nanoparticles will be carried out, and then these will be integrated into cellulose nanocrystals manufactured elsewhere. Finally, the prepared nano-composite will be assembled on the textile support by a well-adapted method. To carry out this project and to achieve these objectives, different expertise and technical skills are required. The strength of the consortium established is that it combines 3 cross-border partners with distinct but very complementary scientific and technical skills. (English)
