The border region contains one of the largest process industry clusters in the world. However, many installations are relatively old at 40 to 50 years, so that corrosion prevention has a high priority. In order to maintain the competitive position of the process industry, it is crucial that installations can continue to function optimally, without problems, safely and with a minimal environmental impact. Physical testing infrastructure is needed to test and develop innovations aimed at corrosion prevention, detection and repair. Three knowledge and educational institutions are responsible for realizing this. Sirris uses existing infrastructure to conduct research on an academic basis and, together with project partners, develops new infrastructure for field testing. The Hogere Zeevaartschool realizes a research pontoon to carry out research on 'wet', water-bound infrastructure. As a third knowledge partner, Scalda supervises the practical and executive side of the research. In addition, a basic curriculum for Corrosion and Isolation Technicians is developed at a higher and intermediate level. At the end of the project, the infrastructure will continue to form an integral part of the participating educational and knowledge institutions and the network of companies that have been built up will continue to take steps together to tackle the corrosion problems.
