Healthy cross-border water ecosystems are a prerequisite for ecologically and economically sustainable life in the Program area. The overall objective of this project is to enhance cooperation and to harmonize common practices for assessing status of streams and rivers with a special emphasis on freshwater pearl mussel and salmonid fish. This is achieved by improving the knowledge-base of freshwater pearl mussel populations and by creating new approaches for conservation practices in the river ecosystems of the Green Belt of Fennoscandia. The main target group of the project are authorities responsible for the management of aquatic ecosystems. In addition, public awareness of biodiversity and its importance is raised in the Program area. (English)
