Property / summary

The project aims at preventing household waste generation, preparing for re-use or recycling and raising awareness of compliance with the municipal waste management hierarchy by involving citizens in separate collection and re-use of books. Through the implementation of the Green Knowledge initiative, the conditions for separate collection of second-hand books and their transmission to certain retail outlets, where they will be sorted and submitted for re-use or recycling, will be created. The project will demonstrate a model for separate collection of used books and reuse through donations to libraries, educational establishments, social homes and community centers, thus preventing the generation of household waste. The implementation of the model of separate collection and recyclability of unfit for re-use books, in the form of a campaign for the collection of unnecessary items, will contribute to reducing household waste generation and will encourage repair and repair activities to prolong the life of old books. The implementation of the project will encourage the change of public self-awareness for the formation of a society with zero waste, recognition and understanding of the problems and risks associated with municipal waste and the promotion in society of belief in the prevention of municipal waste, preparation for re-use and/or separate collection and subsequent recycling. A broad information campaign will promote successful approaches, techniques and methods in the field of municipal waste management and increase public self-awareness to comply with the three highest levels of the household waste management hierarchy, will form responsibility for the attitude and behaviour of households in preventing household waste generation, reuse, as well as separate collection and recycling of old books.
