Η αποκατάσταση του διατηρητέου κτιρίου του REX έχει διπλό στόχο. Από τη μια πλευρά «νοηματοδοτεί» εκ νέου την αρχιτεκτονική παρουσία του κτιρίου μέσα στο ευρύτερο αστικό περιβάλλον, και από την άλλη επιλύει λειτουργικά προβλήματα εκσυγχρονισμού που εντοπίζονται από την ανάλυση-αναγνώριση του κτιρίου και τα οποία στην περίπτωση του Rex είναι, στατικά και προβλήματα εκσυγχρονισμού. Συνεπώς η αποκατάσταση εξειδικεύεται ως εξής:Διατηρείται και αποκαθίσταται το εξωτερικό κέλυφος του κτιρίου.Επανασχεδιάζεται το ισόγειο με τρόπο πιο λειτουργικό και ορθολογικό, τόσο για την εξυπηρέτηση του κινηματοθεάτρου όσο και για την προώθηση του πολιτισμού και τοπικής ιστορίας της Χίου, διατηρώντας ταυτόχρονα τη βασική του τυπολογία. The restoration of the listed REX building has a double goal. On the one hand, it “means” the architectural presence of the building in the wider urban environment, and on the other it solves functional modernisation problems identified by the analysis-recognition of the building and which in the case of Rex are static and modernisation problems. The restoration is therefore specialised as follows:The exterior shell of the building is preserved and restored.The ground floor is redesigned in a more functional and rational way, both for the service of the cinema and for the promotion of the culture and local history of Chios, while maintaining its basic typology.
