Coatings are widely applied technology, the top experts of which are an important part of North Savo’s material technology competence hub. The key objective of this project is to promote the RDI activities of coating companies in the region by supporting them with the strong research expertise of the University of Eastern Finland. The project is based on the need for companies to understand the interdependence between surface chemistry and coating properties. The project addresses the material challenges faced by companies, such as contamination of coatings, durability and even quality. A deep understanding of these phenomena makes it possible to produce more sustainable and effective coatings for applications such as machinery, energy and food. The project will be implemented through three work packages focusing on the functionality of coatings, the modelling of electrolytic coatings, and the characterisation and validation of coatings. The project is carried out in close business cooperation to support the open culture of the University of Eastern Finland and to develop the centre of expertise in material technology built in the area for a longer period. The project is expected to have a significant impact on the speed of RDI activities in the region and on the competitiveness of enterprises. Key results include strengthening the skills and expertise of companies, new innovative products and digital tools. Indirectly, the project is also expected to contribute to the progress of the working life relevance of education in the field of science through the thesis to be carried out in the framework of the project. The results play an important role in the development of regional material technology know-how and in ensuring the competitive advantage of companies. (English) | |||||||||||||||

Pinnoitteet ovat laajasti sovellettu teknologia, jonka huippuosaajat ovat tärkeä osa Pohjois-Savon materiaaliteknologian osaamiskeskittymää. Tämän hankkeen keskeisenä tavoitteena on edistää alueen pinnoiteyritysten TKI-toimintaa tukemalla yrityksiä Itä-Suomen yliopiston vahvan tutkimusosaamisen avulla. (Finnish)
