The aim of the equipment project is to build a studio-shaped learning environment on the Joensuu campus of the University of Eastern Finland, in which the possibilities offered by virtual reality and 360 sound solutions can be explored and exploited for various applications serving different user groups. The aim is to strengthen the regional competence by providing companies with learning environment expertise and cooperation in the development of a digital studio. In addition, the aim is to promote provincial cooperation between the university, companies and educational institutions in the production of services and content based on virtual reality and 360 sound solutions. The target group of the project is companies, municipal teachers and early childhood educators, as well as education organisations in the region of Eastern Finland. The target group also includes students and researchers from the University of Eastern Finland. In particular, the studio serves community projects that cross organisational boundaries, through which children and young people in the region, employees of companies and public organisations, as well as social decision-makers and influencers are involved indirectly. The design of the studio is carried out in cooperation between the University of Eastern Finland and expert companies. The measures are: 1) Co-design of the studio’s teaching and learning research space, 2) Definition and competitive tendering of Studio hardware, 3) Hardware procurement, 4) Installation and commissioning of the equipment environment. The concrete outcome of the project is to create Finland’s first studio-shaped learning environment in which digital learning materials and content based on experience and inclusion can be produced, tested and studied. The sound system optimised for the space also serves the continuum of sound landscape research, enabling more diverse acoustic ecology and soundscape research. In addition, the space enables the further development and utilisation of practices, networks and content produced on the Savonlinna campus. Cooperation with different educational institutions and companies offers new opportunities for product development and testing activities. The project promotes cooperation between enterprises and training and strengthens the competitiveness and substantive development of enterprises. The studio offers space and technologies for teaching, research and development activities beyond competence limits, and for the co-development of new knowledge, competence and operating models based on them. Knowledge sharing, co-development of education and training and the use of new technologies ensure the availability of skilled labour over a long period of time. In addition, teachers are graduated in schools, who are better equipped to carry out teaching that provides all pupils and students with the civic and working life skills needed in the information society.
