The Union of Chemical Industries has decided to make a firm commitment to sustainable transport. Indeed, it wants to promote the use and development of modes of transport that provide guarantees of safety, respect for the environment, reliability and economic gains for its businesses. This is why the UIC, with the support of the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Region, has chosen to work alongside MedLlink Ports, thanks to a collaboration with the French Navigable Routes, the Compagnie Nationale du Rhône and the Grand Port Maritime of Marseille, as well as three regional UICs (UIC Rhône-Alpes, UIC Bourgogne Franche Comté and UIC Méditerranée), to raise awareness and improve the transport of chemicals through the waterway. This results in the launch of a study on the Rhône-Saône basin, which will examine the potential for the riverisation of chemical flows in the basin, focusing on safety, environmental, infrastructure, fleet or innovation aspects, and in particular the definition of a supply that meets the needs of the sector.
