The Afere Chair will be backed by UMR FARE, a research unit recognised for its expertise and expertise in the field of lignocellulosic biomass and its transformation into various molecules and agro-materials. The Chair will thus strengthen the white biotechnology research component of the UMR FARE. This will include strengthening its specificities in the original field of solid fermentation (FMS) and opening new fields through an original partnership involving the University of Liège. The Chair therefore has an inter-institutional dimension and an international dimension marked from the origin of the project. White biotechnology and, more particularly, fermenting processes will be the barycentre of the chair, which will be able to rely in a complementary way on a solid foundation of skills present within UMR FARE and ULG (physico-chemical pretreatment-fractionation of the plant, microbiological and enzymatic fractionation of lignocelluloses, bioprocess engineering, metabolic engineering). The Chair will also be able to rely on the ECP, AgroParisTech and Néoma chairs in order to increase the regional dynamics of innovation in the field of white biotechnology, in line with the S3 logic and the development of a regional bio-economy in the European sense and international ambitions.
