The Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA) is a CSIC center of international reference in research on sustainable food production, food preservation, quality and safety, health impact and consumer acceptance. Since 1996, IATA has a long-established tradition of transfer to industry based on its multidisciplinary knowledge and infrastructure. In order to maintain its high scientific competitiveness and transfer capacity by taking advantage of all its resources, IATA must permanently renew and keep the scientific equipment at the forefront of technology. This action aims to update and improve two scientific-technical services (STC) at IATA, which are shared by the vast majority of its research groups: Food Analytics and Pilot Plant. In the Analytical STC will be located the new ion-exchange chromatography equipment, the auto-injector and derivatizer robot for the existing GC-MS, the ICP-MS, the flow cytometer, the gel visualization system and a rheometer, as well as a second HPLC to deal with the oversaturated status of the already existing one. This action will establish a strategic STC for the development of the numerous research projects and the technological offer to companies. For the Pilot Plant, a last generation microfermentor is requested, which will allow the optimization of fermentation conditions for the production of microorganisms on a pilot scale, another strategic aspect in the medium term, and a lyophilizer to replace the currently available one.
